Supporting your family through life’s challenges

Uncategorized

It happens at least once a year. We get a bout of the flu and the kids are down for a day or two. This year was different though. I had an arsenal of beautiful oils to aid and support our bodies.

Please note: essential oils are not to be used to prevent, treat or cure any disease or illness. Below I share how I used them for support.

Thursday Evening

My oldest son walked up to me saying his tummy hurt as he set his cookie on the counter (which should have been my first clue something was wrong). Thinking it could be anything from a gas bubble to needing to poop, I didn’t worry. Still I grabbed Frankincense essential oil (EO) off the shelf, because it offers a wealth of overall support for the body, and applied it down the flex points of his spine. Whatever was going on I wanted oil’s in his system.

Not 20 minutes later he threw up.

Awesome.

After getting that mess cleaned up I set him up on the couch and pulled out Thieves EO blend. Because my bottle was gone I had to tap into my sample case. Darn you Savvy Mineral Makeup for taking over my ER order! My oil stash has been depleted of late.

Tearing open the sample I rubbed a drop up his spine hitting all the flex points. Then applied it on the feet of me and my youngest. Thank goodness they love oils! Danny especially rests in knowing they offer support for when we feel icky.

He was down the rest of the evening but began feeling better that night. He woke up weak and puny the next day but on the mend.

I continued with Thieves EO on myself and Eli still trying to keep our bodies well supported.

Saturday night

While at a Halloween party, dressed as the man with the yellow hat and curious George, my parents called saying our youngest ‘lost his cookies’ all over their floor.

Again, awesome.

We left our fun little party, only an hour into it, to picked up a sick little boy. He was at it all night asking “why is this happening to me?” It’s so hard to see your babies sick!

I applied Thieves down his spine which seemed to perk him up just a little. I continued applying to my feet as well making a mental note NEVER to run out of the Thieves bottle again – my samples were almost out!

I don’t know what it was but I swear that puke bowl had a direct line to my nose. Sleeping on the couch next to him or sitting there rubbing his feet (he loves having his feet rubbed) all I could smell was that nasty bowl. It was nauseating!

I looked to the diffuser and wondered why I didn’t have it going! I stocked that baby it with Clove and Orange EO’s and turned it on. Almost immediately I began smelling the sweet aroma of therapeutic oils.

Aromatherapy is very real thing. These oils offer more than just a good quality smell. They have many other benefits especially when diffused into the air of our homes. The air had a fresher, cleaner smell to it.

Early that morning he was finally able to keep his water down and we both got to rest.

Sunday Morning

Waking up Sunday morning I felt just plain tired. My back hurt from sleeping on the couch and my tummy was still in knots from watching and smelling the puke all night long.

The coffee brewed but I couldn’t stomach the smell of it. Thinking it was from the episodes of the the night before I started laundry, washed dishes and stared overall clean up.

Breakfast rolled past but I couldn’t eat anything. Refusing to believe I could be getting sick I rubbed more Thieves on my feet.

Once I got things cleaned up a bit I decided to take a shower. My body was beginning to ache but I told myself it was from the night on the couch. The shower was so warm and felt so good that I stood in it for a few extra minutes.

After I asked my husband rub Deep Relief up either side of my spine and across my shoulders. I could have cried it felt so good! Deep Relief contains Peppermint and Wintergreen EO’s which have a very cooling effect on the skin. The smell alone was soothing.

I rolled over flat on by back and slept for three straight hours! What?! My back felt so much better but my body was still exhausted.

What do mommies do when they fell the slightest bit better? They clean!

I did more laundry (because flu = loads of laundry), made sure my oldest was eating and checked on the littlest still on the couch. Having my husband home was wonderful! Nothing is worse than being sick home alone with the kids. But I wasn’t sick! I refused it! That is until I passed out on the couch again and woke up to what I couldn’t deny as the flu. Achy, sore, sick to my stomach – gah!

It was hard to deny this little guy cuddles. He was feeling much better but mommy was not! Question… is it possible to get a picture of boy’s without a silly face?

Thankfully I never threw up. Instead it settled deep into the muscles (it felt like my bones too) of my lower back. The pain was awful!

I asked my hubby to rub more Deep Relief on my back, extra thick this time, and again… I could have cried it felt so good. Actually, I think I did. The cool feel on my skin was perfect! The penetrating relief was like an answer to prayer.

After the oils wore off and I was in and out of sleep the pain got worse. I moved to our bedroom and my husband stuffed a pillow with a heating pad on top under my back. It helped, but the discomfort was still intense.

If my Stress Away blend was near by I would have rubbed it on my neck and shoulders. I don’t know why but negative thoughts always seem to creep up when I’m sick.

Finally the pain let up and by morning I was stiff but able to move around and eat again.

I applied the remainder of the Thieves packet on my feet and got to work on more laundry, dishes and some deep house cleaning.

Oils = happiness

These oils are a blessing. One I don’t take lightly. I feel at peace when I apply them to myself and my family. The more I learn about them the more skilled I become in using them. I still have much to learn but my family is reaping support from them in the mean time.

Some people say they don’t know how to begin using oils. I wrote this blog as an example of how easy it is. You don’t need to know everything about the oils to use them. Just use them!

Bathing in oils

After the kids were over the worst I bathed them in a warm Lavender bath. I let it’s soothing constituents nurse their tired bodies as they laid in the water. The smell was welcoming and soothing. Anything extra to aid in their wellness, I will gladly do it.

If you are interested in essential oils let me help you get started. I have a Facebook page for continued support, free tools and loads of information to help!

Young Living offers so much more than essential oils too. They have Thieves Chemical Free Household Cleaner (which I used all over my house when we were better), laundry soap, shampoo & conditioner, supplements (the kid vitamins are amazing) and their brand new talc, gluten and chemical free makeup line Savvy Minerals. It’s a company that promotes wellness for your entire home.

A chemical free wellness that no home should be without! It’s to easy! It’s to good for you and your loved ones! Stop missing out on this very special kind of wellness. XOXO
