We all know when we look a mess, we feel a mess. It’s irritatingly as simple as that. Finding the time as a busy mom to pour into our beauty needs is a struggle…
Kid’s crawling up our legs, food bowling over on the stove, the laundry timer going off… life screams at us from all directions – I totally get it! After living in that mama mess for a couple years, right after our first was born, I began to realize the importance of taking care of me.
Taking care of me
I put my need’s on the back burner every single day when I was raising my little babies. I didn’t make time for me, for my wants or even my needs. This caused me to fall into depression and it took time and courage to dig out.
I’m not saying a makeup station is going to solve this problem, but let serve as a reminder – you need a little me time and a small place to call your own.
Makeup counter – deemed beauty corner
After finding an amazing brand of makeup that made me fall in love with beauty all over again, I set up a makeup counter, deemed it my beauty corner, and granted myself that “me time” every morning.
Does this look like a place you’d want to go to apply your makeup?
This is my space. Even though my kids walk in and ask me 20 questions while I’m here, I kindly remind them this is mama time and I will be there to help them when I’m done.
Those quiet moments help us pull our thoughts together and regain our balance. Sometimes its just sitting there with a cup of coffee in hand, or getting in a quiet morning bible study. Other times it’taking time to put our faces on for the day.
Organize a functional makeup station
Can I offer some suggestions for a organized and functional makeup station?
- Tray – to keep everything on
- Shelf – to store makeup on
- Drawers – to hide all the little things
- Makeup 😉
- Coffee cup to hold brushes and extra’s
- Mirror – light up mirror is a bonus!
My bathroom use to be the space I did my makeup but that wasn’t my space. It was communal and often times that meant a potty break for one of my kiddos. Sooo… I set up my beauty corner in our home office – this worked much better!
Adding some special touches
If you want to go a little further you can add some of the other items below!
- A radio or something to play music on. I don’t know about you, but I love listening to music as I get ready.
- Something that reminds you of your unique beauty – I have a small crystal ball that my dear Aunt gave me.
- Random beauty decor – Hobby Lobby is excellent for this kind of stuff!
- A diffuser to diffuse your favorite soothing, calming or energizing essential oils – Joy & Stress Away Essential Oils are among my favs!
Whala – beauty corner fit for a queen. A place you want to go. A quite space to dream. Sounds amazing doesn’t it?
Every woman, especially mother’s, deserve this space.
Get started like it was yesterday! That corner ain’t going to organize it’s self. How long has it been since you’ve gone through all that makeup anyway? My guess is there a few thing’s in there needing tossed. If you haven’t touched it in six months… do yourself a favor – let it go!
Treat yourself to some beauty items, feel refreshed, renewed and energized about taking care of you again!
