Do you struggle with Perioral Dermatitis (POD)? Have you been to doctors who prescribed steroids only to find that is the worst form of treatment for POD. After visiting a dermatologist (and realizing this is where you should have started) been prescribed antibiotic creams and oral medications? You are not alone!
The struggle is real
Are you sick and tired of doctors telling you there is no known cause for POD? Are you sick of asking all the right questions and getting no answers. So was I! After struggling with POD for over three years I decided it was time to find some answers!

The journey begins
When I was first diagnosed in 2013, I thought the cause was external – like my skincare and makeup were causing the reaction. I switched to all natural and non-toxic. This was an important step that helped with the external irritation.
It was an important part of the journey that lead down the road to discovery…
Looking at diet
After realizing healing wasn’t going to come from the outside, I began to look at my diet. Trying to eliminate the food’s I could already tell were causing flair ups, I turned to the Whole30 eating plan (an elimination diet) for help. When my diet was under a microscope something unexpected came to light.
I started to find answers to the possible cause of POD. Healing didn’t look impossible at this point. It was a major breakthrough!
This leads us up to today. Were do I go from here? I will be visiting a Naturopathic Doctor to get properly diagnosed. After talking with the Dr on the phone it sounds like I am right on track with what could actually be the issue. There are a couple other issues that might be part of the problem – not wanting to do this on my own anymore I will seek her professional advice before proceeding.
These kind’s of doctors can take months to get into. My hope is to get an appointment for April or May of 2018 (it’s currently February 2018) to narrow down the rout cause and find a treatment plan.
This I know for sure – Perioral Dermatitis IS a food/gut related issue!
POD is not the mysterious unhealable skin condition that some doctors have lead us to believe – there is hope!
Food’s to avoid
Because I believe my symptoms aline with Candida overgrowth, I will stick to some of the food’s they suggest, we as sufferers, avoid until I am diagnosed.
I’ve written up a post of specific foods avoid and or limit >>> List of food’s to avoid
It can seem daunting – specially if you have never tired to avoid sugar and dairy before but the health benefits are not specific to gut or POD health.
