Beauty and grace are what Queen Esther of biblical times was known for. Raised out of poverty to a position of power, she stood for the oppressed and risked her life for what she believed.
The following examples, set by a Queen Esther thousands of years ago, that can still play a pivotal roll in the life of modern day women.
She took great care of her appearance.
…for the days of their beautification were completed as follows: six months with oil of Myrrh and six months with spices and the cosmetics for women – Esther 2:12
She used pure wholesome oils on her skin. Fatty based oils, essential oils and me-oh-my… I am guessing her skin was glowing with life!
Unlike today, our beauty products are filled with chemicals and synthetics, Queen Esther obtained beauty using earth derived oils that were untainted by human hands. Beauty in its most natural and pure form.
Esther had convictions and she stood for them.
…And thus I will go into the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish. – Esther 4:16
She was brave. It was not “according to the law” for her to approach the King but if she didn’t, thousands of Jews would have die.
Queen Esther faced her fears and boldly stood for what she knew to be right. No matter what the cost.
She was full of grace and elegance.
If I have found favor in the sight of the king and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and do what I request, may the king and Haman come to the banquet which I will prepare for them… – Esther 5:8
She requested the King come to her banquet. She didn’t demand. Her gentle spirit peeked intrigue. “Please” and “will you” are words she used. It was the manner in which she approached the King that had him accepting her invitation.
Queen Esther was beautiful.
…Now the young lady was beautiful of both form and face… Esther 2:7
Queen Esther was gorgeous. Yet there is no reference in the scriptures of her flaunting her beauty. No mention of her tearing women down to build herself up. She didn’t wear scandalous clothing to entice the King. Her beauty was used to soften a kings heart and save her people.
And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this? – Esther 4:14
This was a message sent by Esther’s Uncle.
Queen Esther did not know why she was chosen as queen but when the call to action came, it dawned on her why she might have been pulled from poverty – to save the Jews – her people.
My hope is for every woman? That you know God created you for a great purpose, just as He did Queen Esther.
You may not feel like your purpose is as great as hers, however, I wonder what God would say about that…
Modern Day Esther
Such lovely attributes from a timeless beauty. She sets such a prime example for us women to follow still today.
May we be women who take pride in our appearance, stand for others and act with grace and gentleness. That we would be brave and stand up for what is right, following the convictions of our hearts.
