It’s easy to get lost in the daily tasks of motherhood. Slowly we can begin to deprive ourselves of self-care as we work to provide and care for all the little lives in our home. Sometimes there is guilt associated with wanting to break away and spend time, even money, on ourselves. We forget how necessary it is. Below are 4 self-care activities for the tired, lonely mom.
My mama mess
When I fell into my mama mess there was something holding me down – me. I allowed all my needs to be set on the back burner.
The woman who was holding everything together – I gave her nothing.
I began to rely on my husband to be my joy and happiness.
I did all this while silently questioning why I couldn’t just be happy.
But it’s not my families job to make me happy – it’s mine.
What I did to pull myself from the mama mess
1. I went shopping
Got me some fresh, clean, stylish clothes and wore them! No more lounging around in sweat pants and the sweater with a million stains. It was no wonder I felt like a mess.
2. Updated my makeup
The next step was taking my beauty to new unexplored places via updating my skincare and makeup. I’ve struggled with a skin condition (Perioral Dermatitis) for over three years – I was looking for a way to improve it by using natural, pure and clean products.
When I opened my new box of makeup – my inner diva jumped with joy! I found myself in front of the mirror every morning playing with all the new and amazing colors. Which lead me to wanting to get out of the house!
No more long days spent at home. I needed adult interaction. To get out of the walls of my home, so… I reached out to our church and I began volunteering there. I’ve met some incredible women and I’ve been able to get my kids involved in some really amazing programs.
Being out, making a difference and being around new energy has been rejuvenating!
4. Working out away from home
In Spokane Washington there is a workout studio called The Union. For $16 dollars you can take a 60 minute spin, TRX or Yoga class… and it’s exhilarating!
Me and my girl friends try and go at least once a month, when things aren’t as busy we try and shoot for once a week. It recharge our batteries with sweat and loud music!
The instructors are inspiring, they coach not only on the workout, but some on a personal level as well. I go not only for the workout but for the positive vibes and fresh perspective.
Start a blog and sneak off to a coffee shop once a week. I can’t tell you how amazing, fun, and creative it’s been to own a blog. It’s an outlet, a way to share your story, show your style and meet other women bloggers. You can easily get set up and begin blogging in the same day.
Start a home business! There are a million way’s to start and run your own online business – that’s what I do! That was where I began. It was the first step out of my comfort zone and into a life of passion and purpose. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s pushed me to be more – and for that I am grateful!
Get out of the loop
That constant real we keep spinning is getting us no where.
It’s hard being a mama and raising kids. The budget can get tight, I understand. Time can seem hard to come by, I get that… but without change, how are things suppose to get better?
Finding joy and happiness start’s with you. It’s no one’s responsibility but your own. When I figured that out, I started searching. I simply started and one thing lead to another and now… I’m a different woman. No longer confined to the walls of my home but free to explore!
If you want something to change, you’ve got to change it. Find a way to make it happen. It’s really not hard, it just takes action… Can I encourage you to take action today?
We need room to breath, to explore and to have fun! We mama’s need time alone, to recharge, to find balance in a home that can be loud and crazy!
No more, spent and tired mama. You want rested, excited, invigorated mama! And that comes from a healthy balance of you time.
If you are struggling to find joy, than I encourage you to reach out of your day to day activities and try something new!
Sometimes the way to pour joy into our hearts is as simple as spending a little time and money on ourselves.
Pour into your heart and watch what will begin to flow from it.
